Spend a morning with a local farmer, discover his way of life and where our food comes from

We’ll leave Barcelona behind and spend the morning with Marcel, a local farmer who will open the door to his everyday life and help us understand what it means to be a farmer today.

We’ll walk through the fields, learn about his family’s history and discover how the work changes with the seasons. We’ll talk about the land, the food we grow and eat, and the challenges of sustaining a livelihood and an agricultural landscape that is increasingly threatened by the growth of the city.

Along the way, Marcel will show us some of the products he grows and the stories behind them. It will be a close and personal experience, where we can ask questions, observe and discover the countryside through his eyes.

To finish, Marcel will prepare a small tasting of seasonal produce, straight from his farm.

HOW THE EXPERIENCE UNFOLDS

View of Can Aleix farm in the Parc Agrari del Baix Llobregat
1.

We travel to the farm together

We meet in Barcelona and travel together by taxi to Marçel's farm, in the Parc Agrari del Baix Llobregat. When we arrive, he welcomes us and tells us a little about his family and their relationship with the land, before showing us the place where he works every day.

2.

We get to know the land and how it is worked

We walk through the fields while Marcel explains how he works the land, what is grown at each time of year and how the tasks change with the seasons. We also talk about the role of the Parc Agrari del Baix Llobregat and why it matters to protect this farming area so close to Barcelona. We learn more about organic farming and how the choices we make when buying food can have an impact on the territory.

3.

We finish by tasting the season's produce

After the walk, Marcel prepares a small tasting with some of the produce grown on the farm that is in season at that moment. A simple way to end the visit, tasting directly what we have just seen growing.

Where your money goes

5th

generation of farmers working the same land

When you visit this farm, you are not only coming to see how food is grown just outside Barcelona. You are also helping this place continue to exist.

The Parc Agrari del Baix Llobregat is one of the last stretches of fertile land left around Barcelona. Over recent decades the metropolitan area has lost more than 70% of its farmland, and many of the farms still holding on face a growing challenge: finding someone to carry on the trade.

Part of what you pay goes directly to Marçel and his farm. Your visit helps sustain his work, keep this land under cultivation and keep local food reaching the city's tables.
